About Jean and Wendy

Jean: My name is Jean Brodie and I have been a volunteer at South Shields Museum for about 18 months. I am now retired and have always had an interest in social history, particularly objects and furniture. So, when a friend in the South Shields Local History Group suggested I might like to volunteer at my local museum, I made enquiries!

I was paired up with my partner in crime Wendy, who joined at the same time, and we have enjoyed learning new skills together, behind the scenes at the Museum.

Wendy: My name is Wendy Bird and I am a volunteer at South Shields Museum. I have always loved history and learning about the way we used to live. I also belong to the South Shields Local History Group and it was there, when Adam Bell gave a talk to the group, that volunteering at South Shields Museum was mentioned. I applied and was teamed up with Jean Brodie and we have just taken it from there. We have worked on a variety of projects and they are all very interesting in different ways. I have brushed up on my computer skills and have enjoyed researching and cataloguing hundreds of items that we are keen to preserve for future generations.
